Symposium on Non-Conventional Resources

EXPANDING THE ENERGY HORIZON.

Main Purpose: the Symposium on Non-Conventional Resources, “Expanding the Energy Horizon”, aims at integrating different scales and disciplines, from regional to nanopores and from geosciences to well operations, which are key for success in the exploration and development of  non-conventional resources.

Objectives:
•        Presenting, exchanging and sharing information, ideas, methods and concepts applied to the topics of shale, low-permeability sands and other non-conventional objectives in Argentina.
•        Discussing new technologies and best practices.
•        Proving sustainability and environmental protection..

Topics addressed during the Symposium

  • Regional Studies: structural and tectonic styles, sequence stratigraphy, facies and depositional systems, paleogeography, biostratigraphy, paleoecology, oil systems, geochemistry and basin modeling.
  • Static Reservoir Characterization: lithology, petrography, mineralogy, petrophysics, loganalysis, high resolution stratigraphy, facies and electrofacies, geophysical characterization of reservoirs, geomechanics and efforts, geochemistry.
  • Dynamic Reservoir Characterization: hydraulic cracking, fluids characterization, completion strategy and trials, production profiles, PLTs, tracers and permanent monitoring of pressure and temperature, microsysmic monitoring (*), development projects, new challenges applied to projects, compact sands and shales exploration and development (*).
  • Estimated Resources and Reservoirs: resource and reservoir categories, productivity by well, by field, by play, by basin, probabilistic approaches and risk analysis, project assessment methodologies, integrated asset modeling.
  • Enviornmental Protection: integrated studies with hydric resources, environmental risk assessment and mitigation, forbidden areas, regulations, myths and truths about environmental risks related to hydraulic cracking, water control for termination and production.
  • Well Operation and Production: termination, fluids and sand control, intelligent completions, stimulation, coiled tubing and rig-less terminations, extraction systems, surface equipment and facilities, related gas production, liquids removal from the bottom of gas wells, liquid loading, hydrocarbon separation and treatment processes, operations for the production of heavy hydrocarbons.
  • Case Studies: Compact, shale and fractured shale or compact reservoirs. Other non-conventional resources, coal, hydrate, biogenic ethane, heavy oil.
    • Productive basins in Argentina
    • Non-productive basins
    • Tested and productive plays in the US and in Canada
