Transects

The regional transects could be considered a classical and distinctive feature of CONEXPLO events, being a ‘must-visit’ event for the Congress attendees.

Transects are regional sections (300-500 km) along a basin or part of it. In this opportunity, they will be presented in giant posters (panels up to 12 m long) showing the work of a multidisciplinary team of companies (Operators and service companies) and that share the same work issues.

The original idea appeared in 2012, during the organization of the IX CONEXPLO (2014), with the purpose of presenting a regional section of Vaca Muerta formation within the scope of the 1st Symposium of Unconventional Resources.

The most outstanding aspect (innovative, in fact) was achieving that the main Operators provide state-of-the-art information (seismic, electric logs, petrophysical and geochemical data, etc.) to allow its integration into a regional interpretation, conducted by their professionals.

However, it should be noted the importance of the implementation of the concept ‘Co-opetition’, a combination of cooperation and competition (Brandenburger & Nalebuff, 1996) the joint work of a large technical group that come to an agreement for data integration and standardization, implementation of a common language and data interpretation as of different experiences, etc.

The end result is extremely beneficial for participants, due to the added value it provides, the exchange of ideas and the willingness of companies to share information, in addition to the respect and professionalism, which are the base of this collaboration.

After the good results obtained from such important teamwork - nationally and internationally recognized in both industrial and academic environments - during the 10th CONEXPLO (2018), two regional transects were presented: one in Neuquen Basin (Grupo Cuyo) and the second in Golfo San Jorge basin.

#CONEXPLO22 will introduce the following Transects:

  • Upper Mendoza Group Transect (Neuquén Basin)
  • Austral Basin Regional Transect
  • Seismic/ Geomechanical Transect of the Quintuco-Vaca Muerta System (Neuquén Basin)

Preparing the technical information takes a considerable amount of time due to the necessary agreements and permits from Operators, the work methodology and the implementation of the different interpretations.

The display of transects implies a huge graphical and logistical effort. Giant posters dimensions range from 6 to 12 m (length) and 1.5-3 m (height) and must be mounted on special frames to offer visitors a good visual experience. Posters will be exhibited throughout the event, and offer the possibility to meet and talk to the authors according to the timetable proposed in that case.

The preparation of graphics and the mounting of panels will be supervised by the Posters and Transects coordination team, who work together with authors along the process in order to define sizes and design details for an adequate graphical representation.

And lastly, it should be noted that at the closing of #CONEXPLO22, transects will be donated to different national universities.
